About Us

The Japan Traditional Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society; JTAMS, is the single and leading academic society specializing in the Traditional Japanese Acupuncture and Moxibustion (TJAM) in Japan.

The TJAM is the clinical practice of the Traditional Japanese Medicine (TJM) of an over 1,500-year long history in Japan. Acupuncture and Moxibustion was firstly imported as a practice form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) into Japan. Since then, thanks to TJM pioneers’ devotion to apply TCM in Japan for more than 15 centuries, TJAM has had the distinguishing characteristics from TCM and any other practice styles. Most prominent is that TJAM is as effective and safe as the other techniques by the extremely gentle stimulation with the needle and moxa floss. Therefore, TJAM does not appear either an acupuncture or a moxibustion to those who are unfamiliar with it and, as a result, has often been tested as “the sham” in the scientific research settings of acupuncture and moxibustion.

The missions of JTAMS are as follows:

To establish the robust medical system of the Traditional Japanese Acupuncture and Moxibustion valuable to the global healthcare.
To contribute to the development and wider-utilization of the Traditional Japanese Acupuncture and Moxibustion.
In order to achieve our mission, JTAMS encourages the member to improve their academic and clinical levels through providing them with the beneficial activities as follows:

Holding the annual meetings,
Supporting the research activities,
Providing the continuous education,
Publishing the journal (“伝統鍼灸”: The Journal of the Japanese Traditional Acupuncture and Moxibustion: JJTAMS) on a regular time basis,
Cosponsoring the other organizations’ activities in the field, and
Exchanging the resources with the related societies in other countries.
